Being Formative - Learning Stories in Practice with Wendy Lee

This is the second in a series of 10 webinars in 2020 by learning stories luminary, Wendy Lee from New Zealand. Each webinar will cover a chapter in the inspiring new book, co-written with Margaret Carr, called Learning Stories in Practice.

Feedback which focuses on what needs to be done can encourage all to believe that they can improve. Such feedback can enhance learning, both directly through the effort that can ensue and indirectly by supporting the motivation to invest such effort. A culture of success should be promoted where every student can make achievements by building on their previous performance, rather than by being compared with others. • Assessment for learning, formative assessment, is any assessment for which the first priority in design and purpose is to promote children’s learning
• Learning Stories are formative assessments
• A Learning Story assessment portfolio will include five dimensions (ABCDE)

About The Book

The seminal work on Learning Stories by Professor Margaret Carr was first published by SAGE in 2001. That widely acclaimed approach to assessment has since gained a huge international following. A second book by Margaret and Wendy “Learning Stories: Constructing Learner Identities in the Early Years” was published by SAGE in 2012.
