Community Governance: Participation Instructions

The Algorand governance system comprises quarterly governance periods, and governors need to sign up anew to each period. The sign-up window for a governance period will open two weeks before the period itself begins. For the inaugural period, the sign-up window will open on October 1st 2021, and the period itself will begin on October 15th, 2021.

To participate in this system, a would-be governor needs to:

• Sign-in and commit some of their Algos to the upcoming governance period;
• Participate in all the voting sessions in this period; and
• Claim their governance rewards once the period is over

A would-be governor needs to have an Algorand address that it controls, using some wallet or a custodian.

In this session Shai Halevi, Research Fellow at the Foundation will provide a walk though of the Algorand Governance web portal and cover four examples using four different wallets: The Algorand wallet on a mobile device, the web-based MyAlgo Wallet, the AlgoSigner Chrome extension, and a generic wallet/system that supports Algos but is not integrated with governance.
