Challenges of producing French plays in India | A talk by Soma Sundaram | in English

The basic idea is to expose the cultural differences between France and India. First of all the challenges that we face in translating these plays, then come the ones faced by the actors during rehearsals (Molière is very extravagant in his approach as a playwright, as an actor and as a director), and finally the reception from the audience. All this, passing through the costumes, the set, the music... In my approach as a director, I have always tried to respect as much as possible the ways of Molière by incorporating his style 'the comedia del'arte' (the Italian theatre form that he incorporated). We will talk a little about his life as well and how much a visionary he was and how much he was devoted to theatre. We will talk about the themes that he chose to prove that his writings go much beyond his time: the characters he created exist even today and in every part of the world.
