WDSN Careers Panel: Where to from here?

ASPI's Women in Defence and National Security Network is delighted to invite you to our second WDSN Careers Panel of 2020. While the pandemic makes our traditional WDSN events unfeasible, we are excited to bring you a panel of four distinguished women to talk about their career pathways in the defence and national security sector. In this panel our speakers will discuss their career pathways, and how they answered the question 'where to from here?' throughout their careers to date, and how they would tackle that question in the current environment of uncertainty.

Speakers:

Lieutenant Colonel Clare O’Neill, CSC is an Australian Army officer; currently on military leave studying economics from the University of London. Among many other things, Clare has been the Chief of Army Scholar and a Fulbright Scholar at Georgetown University, and member of the Australian Command and Staff College Art of War program. Clare is the founder and editor of Grounded Curiosity, a professional military education website, and founder of the Defence Entrepreneurs Forum Australia, an innovation forum for junior leaders.

Gill Savage is the Deputy Director of Professional Development at ASPI and has extensive experience in business and people strategy, organisational capability and digital transformation. Gill has developed and implemented major transformation programs across government which transformed services, and enhanced leadership and people capability.

Kathryn McMullan is the First Assistant Director-General (SES Band 2) responsible for intelligence coordination, integration and engagement in the Office of National Intelligence (ONI). Kathryn is also ONI’s Gender and Sexual Identity champion.

Kelsey Munro is a Senior Analyst with ASPI’s International Cyber Policy Centre. She has worked in journalism, writing and research since 2005, with a research focus on China, digital authoritarianism and foreign interference. She was a Research Fellow at the Lowy Institute from 2018-19 where she worked on a range of projects including the Lowy Poll, wrote on China-Australia relations, and created and hosted the Institute’s Rules Based Audio podcast.

The panel will be moderated by Olivia Nelson, ASPI's Events and Communications Assistant Manager.
