In conjunction with World Sepsis Day, Prof Pierre Hausfater will discuss monocyte distribution width (MDW) performance as an early sepsis indicator in the emergency department as well as its comparison with CRP and procalcitonin in a recently published multicenter international European prospective study (Haufater et al., Crit Care 25, 227 (2021). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13054-021-03622-5). Furthermore, Prof Hausfater will also review the clinical utility of procalcitonin in the early detection and management of sepsis.
