South East London Workforce Development Hub invites you to their event

Genomic Medicine in Primary Care

About this event

This webinar will provide a brief and practical introduction to Genomic Medicine in Primary Care, exploring what genomic medicine is and how this evolving area of practice may support and improve patient care. The session will cover key areas relevant to primary care, including rare disease testing, adult non-cancer genomics, pharmacogenomics, antenatal and paediatric genomics, and cancer genomics. It will highlight when genomic medicine may be relevant in everyday primary care, how patients can access appropriate testing and referral pathways, and the potential future impact of genomics on diagnosis, risk assessment and personalised prescribing.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what genomic medicine is and its relevance to primary care.
  • Identify when rare disease testing may be appropriate and understand how primary care can request testing or refer patients for genomic assessment.
  • Recognise examples of adult non-cancer genomic conditions that are already being identified and managed within primary care.
  • Understand what pharmacogenomics is and its potential impact on future prescribing and personalised patient care.
  • Recognise clinical scenarios where antenatal and paediatric genomics may be relevant to primary care.
  • Understand the key considerations when managing a patient with a genetic risk of cancer, including when further assessment or referral may be appropriate.
