Construction Industry Council invites you to their event

CIC Webinar on BIM Talks by Development Bureau and Its Works Departments (Part 1)

About this event

Experience Sharing and Roadmap by Development Bureau and Its Works Departments (Part 1)

CIC's goal is to bring together bright minds to give talks that are related to the successful implementation of BIM in real life, and on a wide range of topics to accelerate BIM adoption. BIM experts of different background from the industry will be invited to share their "how-to-BIM" experience in BIM Talks.

Speakers and Topics:

  • Welcome Address

Ar. Ada FUNG, Chairperson, Committee on BIM, Construction Industry Council

Ar. Ada FUNG is the Chairperson of the Committee on BIM of the CIC. With a passion to drive BIM adoption in both local and global arena, Ada is President of Hong Kong Alliance of Built Asset & Environment Information Management Associations, Chairperson of Hong Kong Chapter of buildingSMART International, and Chairperson of Asia-Pacific Regional BIM Group.

Being an Architect by profession, Ada is an active member in society, driving continuous improvement and sustainable development for the built asset industry. She has been the Deputy Director of Housing supervising the Development & Construction Division of the Housing Department until end of 2017. Ada is the President of the Lighthouse Club (HK), and Director of the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre, amongst other services in the civil society.

  • DEVB BIM Road Map and the related Technical Circular

Ir Thomas CHAN, Principal Assistant Secretary (Works), Development Bureau

Abstract: It is stipulated in the Chief Executive’s 2017 Policy Address that the government will adopt building information modelling (BIM) technology in the design and construction of its major capital works projects starting from 2018, and promote the use of this technology in private construction projects. To dovetail with this policy, the Development Bureau (DEVB) has laid down a road map outlining the application of BIM over a complete construction project life cycle, from design, construction, to asset management, and beyond, including the further use of the technology for digital fabrication and integration of BIM data with geospatial data for smart city planning. The medium to long term goal is to adopt BIM for e-tendering and e-submission. To drive the adoption of BIM along the road map, DEVB issued a Technical Circular on BIM Adoption in December 2017. The Technical Circular is regularly reviewed to progressively extend the application of BIM to more aspects in public works projects, together with other supporting measures.

At the same time, to drive the adoption of BIM in private construction projects, the DEVB is collaborating with the Construction Industry Council to develop BIM standards and provide suitable BIM training to construction practitioners as well as providing subsidies to the construction industry on BIM training and procurement of BIM software and hardware through the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund.

The webinar will give the audience an overview of the development and adoption of BIM in public works projects and the achievements so far. It will also elaborate on various milestones of the road map and the salient points of the above mentioned Technical Circular, helping the audience better understand the values of BIM and prepare themselves to thrive in the age of digital disruption.

  • ABC – Adoption of BIM in CEDD

Sr Victor NG ,Chief Land Surveyor, Civil Engineering and Development Department

Abstract: Is the adoption of BIM as easy as learning “ABC” or is it only the first lesson for CEDD? The speaker Sr NG Wai-tak, Victor of CEDD, would like to share CEDD’s experience gained in the past 3 years pursuant to the announcement in the 2017 Chief Executive’s Policy Address on the application of BIM technology in major government capital works projects.

CEDD, as one of the major stakeholders in the construction industry in Hong Kong, plays a vital role in capital works projects. With CEDD’s vision to be a leading organisation engineering the development of Hong Kong and its mission to striving for engineering excellence, the adoption of BIM technology is anticipated to enhance the design, construction, project management, asset management and, more importantly, improving the overall productivity of capital works throughout the entire project life cycle. While more than 90 consultancies and works projects of CEDD have already adopted the use of BIM since 2018, CEDD has actively boosted the implementation of the BIM technology in four strategic areas namely capacity development, standards establishment, data sharing and asset management. For the adoption of BIM across all the works departments, CEDD also plays a key role in the harmonisation of BIM standards and the implementation of pilot projects. Despite CEDD is still at the preliminary stage of the BIM roadmap, we see opportunities and challenges ahead from the present gap to the mature adoption of BIM for the works of CEDD in the coming years.

  • Better with BIM - How BIM improves our Works

Ms. Alice YEUNG, Assistant Director (Architectural), Architectural Services Department

Abstract: With the implementation of BIM in Capital Works projects since 2018, ArchSD has been applying BIM in a wide range of government projects, from simpler and smaller scale projects like open spaces, to more complex and larger scale projects like hospitals.

In this talk, we will introduce our progress of BIM adoption in recent years, encompassing the whole project life cycle from planning, design, construction to operation and maintenance, and the challenges we faced.

We will illustrate how BIM opens up more opportunities for great designs, enables more effective collaboration between stakeholders, facilitates wider uses and applications in project and asset management. We believe that we will be better with BIM: It improves our Works for creating a better Hong Kong.

Participating in this webinar counts for 2 CPD hours. The e-Certificate of Attendance will be sent via email to qualified participants within one month following the webinar.
