Construction Industry Council invites you to their event

CIC Webinar on BIM Talks – Celebration of BIM Achievement - BIM Projects 2020 Winners’ Sharing

About this event

The Construction Industry Council (CIC)'s goal of organising BIM Talks is to bring together bright minds to give talks that are related to the successful implementation of BIM in real life, and on a wide range of topics to accelerate BIM adoption. BIM experts of different background from the industry will be invited to share their "how-to-BIM" experience in BIM Talks.

Speakers and Topics:

  • Welcome Address

Ar. Ada FUNG, Chairperson, Committee on BIM, Construction Industry Council

Ar. Ada FUNG is the Chairperson of the Committee on BIM of the CIC. With a passion to drive BIM adoption in both local and global arena, Ada is President of Hong Kong Alliance of Built Asset & Environment Information Management Associations, Chairperson of Hong Kong Chapter of buildingSMART International, and Chairperson of Asia-Pacific Regional BIM Group.

Being an Architect by profession, Ada is an active member in society, driving continuous improvement and sustainable development for the built asset industry. She has been the Deputy Director of Housing supervising the Development & Construction Division of the Housing Department until end of 2017. Ada is the President of the Lighthouse Club (HK), and Director of the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre, amongst other services in the civil society.

  • Global Synergy for TKO Desalination Plant by Implementation of BIM

Ir Shirley CHENG, Resident Engineer, Binnies Hong Kong Ltd

Mr. WANG Tang, BIM Associate, WSP (Asia) Ltd

Abstract: The sharing project is the Design, Build and Operate First Stage of Tseung Kwan O (TKO) Desalination Plant with client being WSD. The most pressing challenge is to coordinate multiple stakeholders from six geographical regions (the farthest one is from Spain) due to conflicting time zones, locations and common sharing platform issues throughout the project lifecycle. Due to the scale and complexity of the plant, effective application of latest technologies for time and cost savings are crucial.

In this session, the Supervising Officer and the BIM manager of the project will present the feature of the project and the implementations of BIM from application of Common Data Environment (CDE) to modelling automation. All these BIM implementations support and improve the workflow and collaboration of the project, including multiple software interoperability, multidisciplinary collaboration, efficient submission and approval workflow and seamless handover between different work stages.

  • Interactions between BIM and MiC - A Showcase of InnoCell Project

Ms. Michele LUI, Project Manager, Hip Hing Construction Co Ltd

Mr. Tommy WONG, Senior BIM Engineer, Hip Hing Construction Co Ltd

Abstract: Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) is a new construction method that spares fabrication works (completed with finishes, fixtures and fittings) of free-standing integrated modules in a factory. The factory provides a controllable working environment to improve quality, safety and sustainability. Furthermore, off-site module fabrication and on-site construction works can proceed simultaneously to boost the construction efficiency.

As one of the local pioneers of MiC, InnoCell is composed of 418 MiC modules, which takes account for more than 70% of modularization in accommodation floors. Our team confronted many unprecedented challenges, such as avoiding installation problems, ensuring just-in-time logistics, maintaining high quality fabrication, and facilitating distant communication with the module fabrication factory, especially during the outbreak of COVID 19. To leap over such barriers, integrative technology is our solution. BIM plays the core-role of information transfer with other technologies. As a result, we harvested 6 months of project completion in advance, 30% reduction of construction waste, and 0 accident throughout the whole construction period.

In this webinar, we shall share how we adopt different types of technology such as Digital Works Supervision System (DWSS), Internet of Things (IoT), Geographical Information System (GIS) and VR training to better manage the construction, and how BIM plays the role among these technologies.

  • RFID-Enabled Building Information Modeling (BIM) Platform for Prefabrication Housing Production in Hong Kong (Conducted in English)

Prof. George HUANG, Chair Professor and Head of Department in Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, The University of Hong Kong

Abstract: An RFID-enabled platform is developed for enhancing prefabrication housing production in Hong Kong. The use of the platform facilitates (1) seamless communication and coordination among multiple stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle; (2) more efficient cross-border prefabrication logistic and supply chain management (LSCM) and (3) better coordination at construction sites for Just-In-Time (JIT) housing production. The project pilot covers using the deliverables in Prefab Manufacturing, Prefab Logistics and Prefab Assembly processes. The project deliverables help Hong Kong Housing Authority achieve its visionary roadmap of ICT applications for adopting and promoting BIM and RFID throughout the construction project lifecycle.

  • Panel Discussion

Moderators:

Ar. Ada FUNG, Chairperson, Committee on BIM, Construction Industry Council

Dr. Neo CHAN, Member, Committee on BIM, Construction Industry Council

Dr. Neo CHAN is a member of CIC Committee on BIM, a member of the BIM Assessment Panel of CIC's BIM Personnel Certification and Training Course Accreditation Schemes and a member of the BIM Vetting Sub-committee on CITF.
