Construction Industry Council invites you to their event

Webinar on Integrated Common Data Environment (iCDE) – A solution for the centralized platform for NEC communications, DWSS, IoT interface with BIM

About this event

Construction Digitalisation Webinar aims at promoting the latest construction digitalisation-related information to stakeholders. Every time, we have a different theme to introduce stakeholders about the latest information or solutions in a particular area. We are glad to have the participation of dRoW Limited to introduce their solution in this session.

Content of the webinar (information provided by vendor):

ISO19650 is a standard for BIM as well as Information Management. It is all about how to create, use, exchange digital data for construction. ISO19650 inherits UK’s terminologies - Project Information and Common Data Environment (CDE) which requires, as an ultimate goal, the integration and interoperability of all data related to the project. CDE is a single source of truth of Graphical, Non-Graphical data and Documentations. The TC(W) 2/2023 is moving in this direction to break down individual silo systems by combining the contract management module, DWSS, IoT (SSSS) and BIM/GIS into a centralised management platform.

The speaker will explain in details the requirements stated in the DevB TC(W).

Paragraph no. 6 of the circular states “With an aim to further uplifting the performance of capital works contracts, the Works Policies Coordination Committee endorsed at its meeting in October 2022 the policy to further enhance the DWSS through the promulgation of this Circular. The DWSS shall be enhanced with the followings –

  • wider adoption of the DWSS by lowering the adoption threshold of pre-tender estimate from $300 million to $30 million; [Note by speaker : the requirement matches with that of BIM.]
  • enhancement to workflow modules by adding a new Contract Management Module, and incorporating Inspection and Test Plan in the RISC Form Module;
  • inclusion of Smart Site Application Module to collect and consolidate data from different smart site applications.”

Besides the requirements laid out in the Technical Circular, there are three implied challenges from the information and communication technology or digitalisation point of view.

  1. DWSS is supposed to run on PC and by mobile devices. Adding the NEC module in DWSS implies that the NEC system can be run by PC as well as mobile devices. As NEC system is typically document management system which is usually run on PC. It is a challenge to run NEC system on a mobile phone.
  2. The six modules – RISC, Site Diary, Safety, Cleansing, Labour Return and Contract Management and Safety IoT interface dashboard are supposed to be run on one centralised management platform. Users would expect there should be interoperability between the six modules and Safety IoT.
  3. As BIM compatibility is a basic requirement of DWSS. The centralised management must be able to link up the data in the DWSS with individual BIM elements. The speaker will demonstrate iCDE can satisfy the above requirements.

The Development Bureau, HKSAR requires all, not selected, new DWSS projects to upload site data in real time to the iCWP in DevB. The iCWP will become a valuable big data of construction for the monitoring, analysis and future planning of public works.
