Many organizations have adopted KPI’s without developing an overall framework to ensure that the KPI’s that are used are the most appropriate ones for their business and situation. This often results in the use of too many measures and a focus on areas that are not of critical performance. Organizations should be thoughtful and deliberate about selecting KPI’s; selecting the wrong ones can actually harm an organization.
