Educa invites you to their webinar

Learning Stories in Practice with Wendy Lee

About this webinar

"The Learning Stories approach is more than just a form of assessment, it is a philosophical perspective on learning and teaching."  Wendy Lee

Educa welcomes learning stories luminary, Wendy Lee from New Zealand.

We are pleased to announce that Wendy -- one of the creators of the learning story concept -- is going to present a series of webinars hosted by Educa in 2020 on her new book, "Learning Stories in Practice."

Margaret Carr and Wendy are deeply interested in how to document children’s learning and focus on ways to more effectively build the identity of children as learners. The focus is on assessment that sits inside the curriculum and which is not isolated from the day-to-day life of the early childhood setting.

This webinar is an overview of the book. Wendy will talk about the power of stories and some of the fundamental ideas that she will be exploring in more depth in next year's webinar series. This will include:

  1. Being Formative
  2. Being Fair
  3. Recognising Powerful Frameworks
  4. Managing Ambiguity
  5. Sharing responsibility with the learners
  6. Developing partnerships with families
  7. Constructing progress

About The New Book

The seminal work on Learning Stories by Professor Margaret Carr was first published by SAGE in 2001. That widely acclaimed approach to assessment has since gained a huge international following. A second book by Margaret and Wendy “Learning Stories: Constructing Learner Identities in the Early Years” was published by SAGE in 2012.

Margaret and Wendy's new book, "Learning Stories in Practice," features a variety of examples of real-life learning stories from around the world. It provides clear, practical advice on how to initiate and create learning stories and why they are valuable. The authors show readers how to write stories that capture the excitement of each young child’s journey through the early years and how to develop a deep professional understanding of the learning that takes place during this time in their lives. You can buy the book here.
