This is the seventh a series of 10 webinars in 2020 by learning stories luminary, Wendy Lee from New Zealand. Each webinar will cover a chapter in the inspiring new book, co-written with Margaret Carr, called Learning Stories in Practice.
A portfolio of Learning Stories becomes a ‘boundary object’ that crosses the generations.
It is owned and read by the children, and read and commented on by families. Teachers sometimes write Learning Stories not just as formative assessment artefacts for the children and the other teachers, but also with an additional comment with the children’s families in mind as readers and responders.
Learning Stories can be created to both make connections with families and focus on progressing the learning.

The seminal work on Learning Stories by Professor Margaret Carr was first published by SAGE in 2001. That widely acclaimed approach to assessment has since gained a huge international following. A second book by Margaret and Wendy “Learning Stories: Constructing Learner Identities in the Early Years” was published by SAGE in 2012.
Margaret and Wendy's new book, "Learning Stories in Practice," features a variety of examples of real-life learning stories from around the world. It provides clear, practical advice on how to initiate and create learning stories and why they are valuable. The authors show readers how to write stories that capture the excitement of each young child’s journey through the early years and how to develop a deep professional understanding of the learning that takes place during this time in their lives.
