Appraisal of the Smeaheia Fault Block for CO2 Storage using PaleoScan™

About this event

Smeaheia, a prominent fault block located on the Horda Platform in the northern North Sea, is identified as a potential subsurface CO2 storage site. In this webinar, we will present the results of a study using PaleoScan™ to identify and characterize this potential CO2 storage area.

The first part of the study involves a global analysis that helps us better understand the lithology and paleoenvironment, revealing new geomorphological evidence for paleoenvironmental interpretation and detailing lateral facies variations.

The second part focuses on identifying various potential reservoirs and seal layers and constructing different geobodies corresponding to several CO2 storage scenarios - with the final goal of calculating gross rock volumes.

This study demonstrates how PaleoScan™ streamlines the 3D analysis of sedimentary successions, rapidly and accurately identifying multiple temporally spaced structures and subtle morphological variations along consistent horizons. To conclude, we were able to create and extract complex geobodies from the data, allowing for a precise calculation of gross rock volumes.
