About this event
Net zero is now widely integrated within sustainability agendas at both corporate and project levels. Infrastructure development typically requires habitat clearance. This habitat stores and sequesters carbon. But when habitat is missing from the baseline used to set net zero targets, the losses in carbon storage and sequestration resulting from habitat clearance is not captured, creating an invisible carbon gap.
In the latest publication from the Net Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition (NZIIC), written as a result of a workstream led by Mott MacDonald, “Nature: the missing piece of the net zero puzzle” highlights how the carbon sequestration potential of nature can be used to set a net zero baseline, and to assess whole life carbon within construction for a holistic approach to Net Zero.
