Unlocking Barriers to Deliver Sustainable Brownfield Regeneration

About this event

Our next Brownfield & Regeneration Network panel discussion will explore 'Unlocking Barriers to Deliver Sustainable Brownfield Regeneration' and will specifically look into:

  • The importance of early engagement and collaboration: involving all parties from the outset and utilising resources available to de-risk sites and minimise potential delays and unexpected costs
  • Managing the impacts of rising material costs and the sector skills shortage:
  • Understanding the costs and risks of perceived lower-cost options
  • Effectively incorporating climate change & sustainability goals into brownfield development

Chair:

Peter Witherington, Deputy Chairman, RSK Group

Panellists:

Karen Thornton, Land Quality Endorsement Manager, NHBC

Karen’s 30-year career has been around addressing challenges presented by Brownfield redevelopment and supporting the delivery of new homes, which are safe, of high quality, and in places where they are most needed.

Karen is the Manager of NHBC’s Land Quality Service. Offering early engagement with our team of Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental specialists for those looking to bring their sites to residential markets and requiring reassurance that their scheme will achieve acceptance against NHBC Land Quality Standards.

Profile coming soon...

Anthony McNichol, Contaminated Land Officer, Stoke-on-Trent City Council

I’ve been with Stoke-on-Trent City council approaching 20 years. I’ve been specifically looking after the contaminated land function for 15 years, prior to that my role involved monitoring our closed licensed landfills. As a local with generations of family involved in Stokes rich industrial history of mining and pottery manufacture I am passionate about the city and its regeneration. In my view the role of a contaminated land officer is of course to ensure the wellbeing of residents but promoting and enabling development is crucial to the economic success of the city.
