About this event
The second FlexoKITE technical webinar will focus on Ink - Lacquer foaming with water based inks in all Flexo applications including corrugated, flexible packaging, label and coating stations in offset printing. You will learn from industry experts about technologies that can eliminate foaming.
We will investigate the root causes of foaming and explore technology to control the foaming and eliminate the factors that create it.
Ink Foaming is a problem facing every flexo and offset converter today when using water-based inks or lacquer.
Foaming can occur on every press regardless of the ink manufacturer.
In production, the most common fix for the foaming is the addition of an anti-foam agent. The amount of additive needed can be as small as 0.1% up to a maximum 2%.
Controlling or eliminating liquid foaming, through tiny manual additions to the ink or lacquer can be difficult to regulate and control during production.
Too much antifoam results in:
A - A negative impact on the ink Trapping
B - A difficulty to regulate in inks that are returned to stores for re use.
C - Furry print edges.
D - Mottle effect on the solids
Too little antifoam creates
A - poor laydown
B - slow ink flow
C - ink starvation / streaks
D - viscosity
Sun Chemical & Graymills will join Apex and Esko in a deep dive into Ink & Lacquer Foaming.

FlexoKITE is a workshop, press floor, seminar series, and tradeshow rolled into one robust flexo user experience. Broadcasting from two brand-new Experience Centers in the Netherlands and India, FlexoKITE runs a fully-equipped integrated workflow of the latest equipment from Apex International (anilox), BOBST (inline flexo press), DuPont (plates), Esko (prepress and flexo imaging), and MacDermid (plates).
“Knowledge, Innovation, Technology, and Exploration” (KITE) are the driving forces that unify these industry leaders to deliver real-world technical content not limited to a single product area. FlexoKITE provides print converters and brands a comprehensive view of the entire plate-to-print process, focusing on the finished printed product while synchronizing the plate-screening, plate-processing, anilox and press steps.
