Print quality in flexible packaging is heavily impacted by white ink. When white ink is not so opaque or homogenous the printed graphics look dull or grey. Increasing the printed ink weight by increasing anilox volume can improve opacity. But there are obvious trade-offs concerning bond strengths for lamination not to mention ink usage. White ink is typically 30% of a converters ink costs.
Join Esko, Apex, Sun Chemical & Windmöller & Hölscher as we present the results of 36 different print tests for optimal White Ink Opacity and quality. In the first webinar, we presented different ways to improve white ink opacity & ink laydown. Not surprisingly we were asked, “What is the best combination?” since there are many possible combinations of anilox volume, surface pattern, plate type & white inks. We accepted the challenge and got to work.

After the print tests, we measured the opacity of each possible combination and used a microscope to capture the ink homogeneity. This gives converters a massive head start in their quest to optimize white print quality, efficiency & cost improvement.

Nicholas has more than 33 years experience in the flexo printing industry. Starting as a flexo print operator, he later became the Production Manager of a large wide web flexible packaging company. Nick currently holds the role of Technical Director at Apex International.
Wolfgang is leading WINDMÖLLER & HÖLSCHER's Technical Printing Center since 2011. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the flexible packaging business and is an expert in printing and converting.
