Henry Denner is Cyber and GRC Lead at Conekt, the Johannesburg-based ICT firm whose security practice delivers managed detection and response, threat intelligence, risk assessments and penetration testing to clients in South Africa and abroad. He has seen the SOC from both sides. Following a breach at the Gautrain Management Agency, Henry moved from IT management into the Information Security Officer role and built the agency's security program and ISMS from nothing — an architecture spanning cloud, endpoint, application and data security, backed by a managed SOC. He now sits on the provider side of that same relationship, which makes him unusually direct about what AI genuinely changes in security operations and what it merely rebrands. His guiding principle hasn't changed: security must be an enabler, not just a bunch of controls.
