About this event
Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), Automated-Mobility-on-Demand (AMoD), Connected Car Services, Vehicle Data Monetization and Mobility Blockchain are some of the new business models emerging as a result of technological advancements in connectivity and cloud computing and the decreasing cost of battery technology and sensors for autonomy.
Many companies in the automotive and adjacent sectors are investing in their ability to extract value from car data and use the valuable insights to provide connected services. Some are launching pilots and others have started to scale up their offers and capabilities. In the beginning of August, Avis Budget Group announced a new partnership with Israeli startup Otonomo, to link its global fleet of more than 100,000 connected cars to Otonomo’s cloud-based marketplace.
Car makers are exploring new revenue opportunities or collaborate with startups who have developed or in the process of developing a successful business model. One of the latest examples is Nissan Motor Co and its Chinese partner Dongfeng Group, working to launch a joint venture to manage car fleets for Didi’s ride-hailing and car-sharing services.
Also, Bosch is working with EnBW, on a prototype for a charging process based on blockchain technology. Bosch’s prototype promises to streamline the current charging process, so drivers can find a station, reserve their spot, and pay without hassle, with the car doing much of work by itself.
