Inside GASA's 2026 State of Scams in the USA Report
When Americans get scammed, most don't start with the police. According to GASA's 2026 State of Scams in the USA report, produced in partnership with Iris OnWatch, only 40% of victims who lost money reported it to authorities. Far more (58%) turned to commercial organizations, most often their own bank or payment provider. The brands people already rely on every day have become the first place they go when something goes wrong.
That shift matters more than ever. Scam exposure has climbed to 82% of American adults, who face an average of 347 scam attempts per person each year. Scams are also getting harder to recognize: two in three victims now find out they've been scammed only when someone else tells them, up from 45% last year. And the cost reaches well beyond the estimated $37.3 billion Americans lost. Nearly six in ten victims say the experience affected their wellbeing, and one in five saw reduced access to credit.
In this 30-minute session, speakers will walk through the report's key findings and what they reveal about where consumer trust sits today. They'll also discuss the opportunity for banks, platforms, telecom providers, and security specialists to support people at the moment they need it most.
What we'll cover:
Who should attend: Fraud, risk, and AML professionals; product leaders & strategists; customer experience and trust & safety teams; consumer protection advocates; and anyone working to support scam victims.
