New Legionella Requirements for Healthcare Facilities– Updates for 2022

About this event

Deciphering the on-going requirements of managing your Legionella Water Management Plan (WMP) can be confusing for healthcare facility management and personnel. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) memorandum from 2018 retracted initial guidance on Legionella, leading to more confusion, and 2021 was a big year for updates in regulations, standards, and guidelines. Join panelists from the ASHRAE 188 committee and ASSE 12080-certified water treaters as well as experts in Legionella testing and healthcare facility leaders to learn about these updates and how they will impact healthcare facilities in 2022.

Topics covered:

  • Current guidance from CMS regarding water management policies and procedures to reduce the risk and growth and spread of Legionella and other opportunistic pathogens in building water systems.
  • Updated Environment of Care Standard 02.05.02 from the Joint Commission, in effect January 1st, 2022 regarding WMP’s. This includes additional required documentation for Joint Commission and CMS audits on certified and accredited healthcare facilities.
  • Updated CDC guidance on environmental Legionella sampling and testing.
  • State regulations in effect concerning Legionella testing. Overview of Standards and Guidelines ASHRAE 188-2021, ASHRAE 12-2020, CTI GDL 159 (2020).
  • Industry best practices for: WMP management, Legionella testing, remediation, and secondary disinfection technologies.
