ISMIE Risk Management invites you to their event

A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: Serious Conditions Behind Benign Chief Complaints

About this event

Back pain, joint pain, a sore throat – most of the time these common complaints are a symptom of something benign and usually self-limited, but occasionally they may be the manifestation of a life-threatening disorder. Using a case-based format, this lecture covers several common chief complaints that may or may not be due to a serious cause, and outlines an approach to evaluating these cases.

Who can attend

Registration is limited to ISMIE and SEMPIC policyholders and their employed staff.

Learning objectives

At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the “SPIT” approach to evaluating a chief complaint
  • Explain the differential diagnosis of complaints like headache, joint pain and sore throat to include possible serious conditions
  • Discuss how to identify which patients may need further evaluation
