About the speakers

Brian J. Murphy, CPHRM, has been employed by ISMIE since 2000, serving currently as the national risk management & patient safety advisor. He consults on risk management issues with physicians, their employee staffs, practice managers, lawyers and brokers, and serves as a liaison to the ISMIE sales and marketing team. Murphy has facilitated and presented many programs devoted to risk management issues and is a certified presenter for the Institute for Healthcare Communication. He is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management and completed the Enterprise Risk Management Certificate Program through the American Society for Health Care Risk Management. Murphy has an extensive background in regulatory compliance and fire safety, and works as a lieutenant paramedic/firefighter for the Westmont Fire Department. He is a member of the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM), the Chicagoland Healthcare Risk Management Society (CHRMS) and the Illinois Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ISHRM).

Michael H. O’Neill, CPHRM, has been employed by ISMIE since 2002, serving as the assistant vice president of risk management operations. In this position, he oversees the coordination of risk management activities, as well as the risk assessment program. Daily, O’Neill works with physicians, practice administrators, physician staff members, chief executives, and brokers in helping them address various risk management concerns and questions. He has presented at numerous live events on various risk management topics over the years. Before working in risk management at ISMIE, he worked in the claims division at ISMIE, Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company, and Safeco Insurance Company. O'Neill is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management through the American Hospital Association and completed his Healthcare Risk Management (HRM) certification through ASHRM. He is a member of ASHRM, CHRMS, and ISHRM.
