About this event
This activity, is a live debate where speakers on “market-based solutions” and “single-payer solutions” will be given equal time to address the implications of market-based and single-payer solutions for cost efficiency, choice, coverage/access to care, quality of care and professional satisfaction. This program will improve the competence of learners at advocating for good policy by giving them the knowledge they need to understand both sides of the current debate about health care reform. If learners are more inclined towards one side or the other, it will give them better insight into the other side of the debate.

Pro Single-Payer Models
Claudia Fegan, M.D., is national coordinator of Physicians for a National Health Program. In her current and past leadership roles in PNHP she has appeared on national television and radio programs on behalf of the organization, and has testified before congressional committees on a wide range of healthcare issues. She has lectured extensively to both medical and community audiences on healthcare reform in the U.S. and Canada.
Dr. Fegan is executive medical officer for the Cook County Health and Hospital System and chief medical officer at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. She received her undergraduate degree from Fisk University and her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Pro Market-Based Models
Ann Stroink, M.D., is a board-certified neurosurgeon and founding senior partner of Central Illinois Neuro Health Sciences in Bloomington, IL. In addition to a full general neurosurgery practice she serves as system medical director, neurosciences quality and educational program development for Advocate Healthcare.
Dr. Stroink co-founded the Central Illinois Neuroscience Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing neuro healthcare through education and research. She is actively involved in organized medicine, serving as Chair of the Neurosurgery Delegation to the American Medical Association. Currently she is the President-Elect of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Moderator
Christine Bishof, M.D., M.P.H., is board certified in emergency medicine and practices at multiple hospitals throughout Illinois. She has been an ISMS member since 2001 and currently serves as the ISMS Speaker.
Dr. Bishof received her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. She completed her residency at Cook County Hospital in Emergency Medicine.
