About this event

The medical professional liability (MPL) trends impacting healthcare professionals have shifted since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Join Mike O’Neill, Assistant Vice President of Risk Management Operations, and Terese Souders, Assistant Vice President Claims, from ISMIE to discuss Hot Topics in Medical Professional Liability, the latest trends in medical liability and how to recognize vulnerabilities and mitigate risk.

About the presenters:

Michael H. O’Neill, CPHRM, has been employed by ISMIE since 2002, serving as the Assistant Vice President of Risk Management Operations. In this position, he oversees the coordination of risk management activities, as well as the risk assessment program. Daily, O’Neill works with physicians, practice administrators, physician staff members, chief executives, and brokers in helping them address various risk management concerns and questions. Mr. O'Neill is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management through the American Hospital Association and completed his Healthcare Risk Management (HRM) certification through ASHRM.



Terese M. Souders, AIC, is ISMIE’s Assistant Vice President Claims. Her team guides policyholders through the claims and litigation process, which can at times be stressful and complex. With more than 28 years of experience in the medical professional liability field, Ms. Souders counsels physicians and other healthcare professionals through every step of litigation, often reminding them that successful outcomes require active participation and collaboration. Ms. Souders is a champion of ISMIE’s proven claims management process, which provides strategic analysis in close coordination with the defense team throughout the duration of the claim.
