Illinois State Medical Society invites you to their event

Illinois Crime Victims Compensation

About this event

Crime changes things in ways you may not expect. The Crime Victim Compensation Act was established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1973 to help reduce the financial burden imposed on victims of violent crime and their families. The Crime Victims Compensation Program can provide reimbursement to eligible victims and their families for expenses accrued, as a result of a violent crime. Hospital staff, outpatient treatment providers, social workers, compliance officers, trauma resource center staff, and others who assist victims of violent crime have key roles in assisting individuals with accessing these resources. Reimbursement is available for medical, counseling, and dental expenses along with a host of others.

Over the past few years, the Illinois Attorney General’s office has worked to expand access to Crime Victim Compensation for victims and update the program to better respond to victims. This webinar will provide information about the updates to the Crime Victims Compensation Act and the administration of the program. Topics to be covered include the new compensation limits, the expanded application window, changes to applicant eligibility and policies related to billing and claim status inquiries. The webinar will also include information about compliance with the statutory requirements for hospitals to notify victims about the compensation program.
