About this event

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that demands prompt and accurate intervention. Sepsis education is critical for healthcare professionals to enhance and support early detection and treatment to assure appropriate patient outcomes. Educational programs, such as this webinar, ensures that health professionals have up-to-date knowledge on early recognition, appropriate antibiotic administration, and development of timely interventions to properly treat sepsis. It is well recognized that given the advancement in Sepsis research, informed healthcare professionals can be better positioned to navigate the complexities of Sepsis, reduce mortality rates, and mitigate long tern consequences for their patients.

About the presenters:

Jane Brock, M.D., M.S.P.H.

Dr. Jane Brock is a medical director at Telligen, the Medicare Quality Innovation Network - Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) for Illinois, Iowa, Colorado and Oklahoma. She works as a clinical advisor to the Data Validation contractor for the Network; and as clinical subject matter expert for the Partnership to Advance Tribal Health, an initiative funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to support quality improvement in Indian Health Service managed hospitals. Her passion is integrating and measuring social, medical and public health care, preferably by geographic community-based indices, and identifying and spreading implementation best practices for quality improvement interventions.





James Alexander L.N.H.A., L.I.S.W.

James Alexander is a Senior Quality Improvement Facilitator with Telligen QIN-QIO. James has over 25 years in healthcare ranging from providing individual, group and family therapy in a children’s psychiatric residential facility, hospice care, and managed care. He has served as adjunct faculty for research and advanced research methodology with the University of Iowa School of Social Work, Des Moines campus.

He is considered a subject matter expert in care transitions management, end of life issues and communication methods for all venues of healthcare. Currently with Telligen, he supports nursing homes across Iowa to achieve quality improvement through resources, process improvement, coaching, and individual and corporate technical assistance.



Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Provide an overview of and discuss the current state of Sepsis occurrence in Illinois.
  2. Recognize patient awareness as an integral component of an effective Sepsis quality improvement strategy.
  3. Implement a set of curated best practices and resources in patient care regimen.
  4. Identify process to achieve long-term sepsis outcomes.

The Illinois State Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
