Lhasa OMS invites you to their event

An Integrative Approach to Treating Sleep Conditions: Panel Discussion

About this event

Join Lhasa OMS as we host sleep experts Dr. Damiana Corca, DACM, L.Ac. and Daniel Bernstein L.Ac., CH., moderated by Chad Bong to discuss an integrative approach to treating the most common sleep conditions.

According to the American Sleep Association, 50-70 million adults have a sleep disorder. Also, with such unprecedented changes to our lives and daily routines, it’s understandable that the importance of sleep is flying under the radar. But as we adjust to our "new normals" and try to remain healthy in a time of COVID-19, focusing on sleeping well offers tremendous benefits.

With so many different treatments available from acupuncture and Chinese herbs to Western drugs and hypnosis, this webinar will discuss multiple treatment methods used by practitioners who specialize in treating sleep disorders.

What attendees will learn:

  • How keeping a sleep log can change insomnia patients retention in your practice
  • The difference between the quality and quantity of sleep and how it relates to the extraordinary vessels
  • How to identify the root problem of an insomnia patient in the first session and better communicate a healing prognosis
  • An effective Balance Method protocol for treating Insomnia
  • Several classic herbal strategies
  • A brief exploration into Autogenic Training. This exercise helps to relax the sympathetic nervous system at night when it’s time to sleep

Who Should Attend:

  • Practitioners and Students looking to learn more about treating sleep conditions
  • Practitioners and Students looking to help themselves sleep better
  • Practitioners and Students looking to add to their Treatment Tool Box

Daniel Bernstein L.Ac., CH.

As a working acupuncturist in NYC since 1995, my four-year training entailed a meld of Japanese-style acupuncture and classical herbology. In 2005, I began studying trance work (Ericksonian Hypnotherapy) and by 2010 was battling sleep-related issues. My weapons of choice include Chinese herbs, acupuncture (Japanese, 5E, 8EV, Tan, and Tung), and hypnosis (hypnopuncture).

In 2016 I decided to try and codify the tools I had gathered over the years so that the layperson might 1) sleep better, and 2) begin to access their own inner healer, and utilize acupuncture. The book, released this last February, is titled “Rewired for Sleep: The 28-Day Insomnia Repair Program”.  While written with the layperson in mind, I believe its stew of East-West techniques can be useful for any practitioner who encounters insomnia and anxiety in their practice.

Finally, I am (perhaps inordinately) proud of my rarely used Twitter handle: hypnopunc

About Our Moderator:

Chad Bong, MS., L.OM, L.MT

Chad has loved sports his whole life. This love has been instrumental in him going to college, completing a masters degree in exercise science, learning massage therapy, going to acupuncture school, and finally specializing in orthopedic and sports acupuncture.

Over the last 9 years Chad has taught at Southwest Acupuncture College, WON Institute, and Tristate College of Acupuncture, classes include; sports acupuncture, physical assessment, clinical mentorship, and palpation. He has also taught continuing education classes on orthopedic and sports injuries.

Chad has always been interested in sleep from a sports performance and recovery standpoint, encouraging his patients to exchange some of their training hours for more sleep.  For most of his life, he has prioritized sleep and has been gifted with between 7.5 and 8.5 hours of sleep.  Then kids happened.  After the first kid, sleep was not dramatically changed, but quickly found out what it is like to live and work on short sleep after the second one arrived.  Coffee intake went from being a fun tool for teaching days or days wanting to focus, to multiple days a week, to craving it daily just to make it though the day.  Then reading two books “Caffeine” by Michael Pollan and “Why We Sleep” by DR. Matthew Walker.  Why We Sleep blew his mind on how much lack of sleep affects almost everything about us.  This has lead Chad to feel that one of the most important things I could do for patients is to help them get more sleep and more high quality sleep.  I not only does he want to get this message to his patients, but to as many people as possible.  The world would be a better place if we all improved our sleep.

Chad is also one of the founding members of the Sports Acupuncture Alliance and The PInpoint Performance Podcast. Both focused on helping to bring together and provide educational opportunities for the orthopedic and sports acupuncture community.
