About this event
Highly regulated critical services—like banking, education, and employment—are increasingly enabled through web-based platforms. This reality has made it possible for millions to access more, in real time, from anywhere in the world, via a personal device. And as the use of agentic AI propagates, automation and human-not-present activities are increasingly becoming mainstream. While convenient for the end user, this also means the threat vectors and vulnerabilities to personal data have increased, as bad actors and profit-hungry intermediaries work to exploit and monetize personal data in the absence of user consent or authorization.
Digital platforms transcend borders and localized privacy and data regulations, and, as such, our personal data is at risk from a growing pool of illicit actors. How can we enable frictionless access AND secure sensitive personal identity data in this new paradigm? Digitally native, decentralized identities and verifiable credentials provide a pathway to balancing privacy and consumer protection while facilitating access and inclusion.
Online fraud, identity theft, account takeover, synthetic identities and AI deepfakes all hinge on the question of personal identity. This discussion will highlight the importance of identity to national and international security in an increasingly web-native world, and will demonstrate how modernized identity solutioning can help service providers offer the convenience of online services while putting up robust barriers against illicit actors, fraudsters, and exploitative institutions.
