Understanding Chronic Viral Disease: From Evidence to Practice

A Two-Part Clinical Education Series

This is a two-part series held one week apart. Part 1 lays the clinical foundation; Part 2 applies those findings in practice. The sessions are designed to be attended in sequence - we recommend registering for both to get the full clinical picture.

Part 1: The Clinical Picture | Wednesday 24th June, 6 PM BST | 2 hours | CPD Accredited

Part 2: Protocols in Practice | Wednesday 1st July, 6 PM BST | 2 hours

About this series: Chronic viral illness and its overlap with complex chronic disease present real clinical challenges - yet dedicated education in this space remains limited. This two-part series bridges that gap, taking you from evidence base to practical application.

Part 1: The Clinical Picture

Wednesday 24th June, 6 PM BST | 2 Hours | CPD Accreditation in progress

Led by Dr. Carsten Nicolaus, Chief Medical Advisor at MakeWell and a globally recognised authority on chronic infections and complex illness, this session provides a comprehensive grounding in chronic viral disease. With over 30 years of clinical experience and more than 30,000 patients treated, Dr. Nicolaus brings unparalleled depth to a subject that demands both scientific rigour and clinical nuance.

This session covers:

  • The history and evolving understanding of chronic viral disease
  • Pathophysiology: how viral infections become chronic and why
  • Viral reactivation - EBV, CMV, herpes and their role in complex illness
  • Overlap with Lyme disease and tick-borne conditions
  • Clinical findings from Dr. Nicolaus's practice
  • Diagnostic considerations and patient presentations

CPD Accredited: attendees who complete the full live session will be eligible for 2 CPD points.

Part 2: Protocols in Practice

Wednesday 1st July | 2 hours

Building directly on the clinical foundation established in Part 1, this session moves into practical application. We examine how the evidence base translates into real-world clinical applications, exploring protocols and nutritional interventions that can support your patients with chronic viral illness.

This session covers:

  • Applying clinical findings to patient management
  • Nutritional and supplemental support for chronic viral illness
  • MakeWell's Viral Protocol: rationale, formulations, and clinical application
  • Integrating viral support alongside existing protocols
  • Case-based discussion and practical guidance

Who Is This Series For?

This series is designed for healthcare practitioners working with patients affected by chronic viral illness, post-viral syndromes, Lyme disease, or complex chronic conditions. It is relevant to:

  • Integrative and functional medicine practitioners
  • Naturopaths and nutritional therapists
  • GPs and specialist physicians with an interest in chronic illness
  • Any practitioner seeking a deeper understanding of viral disease in complex patients

Registering for Part 1 will automatically enrol you in Part 2. You can opt out at any time.
