This Black Breastfeeding Week, Kiki Milk invites you to Feeding Forward—a virtual gathering centered on the realities, resilience, and possibilities shaping Black breastfeeding and infant-feeding experiences today.
Breastfeeding is more than a feeding choice. For Black families, the journey can be shaped by everything from prenatal care and birth experiences to access to lactation support, cultural expectations, nutrition, workplace realities, family dynamics, and the systems surrounding maternal and infant health.
Feeding Forward brings together leaders across maternal health, pediatrics, obstetrics, lactation, nutrition, and family wellness for an interdisciplinary conversation about what it truly takes for Black families to feel informed, respected, and supported throughout their feeding journeys.
Together, we'll follow the feeding journey across the continuum—from prenatal preparation and birth through postpartum, infant nutrition, weaning, and the transition to complementary feeding.

Maya Feller, MS, RD, CDN is the founder and lead dietitian at Maya Feller Nutrition. In her practice, her team provides medical nutrition therapy and nutrition coaching for hormone and metabolic health, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mood disorders, developmental disabilities, disordered eating, and more. Maya believes in providing inclusive nutrition education from an anti-bias patient-centered, culturally humble approach to help people make informed food choices. Maya shares her approachable, food-based solutions with millions of people through her new on-demand courses, regular speaking engagements, writing, her social platforms, and as a national nutrition expert on Good Morning America, is a Healthline Medical Advisor, and on the advisory board for SHAPE and Parents. She is the author of Eating from Our Roots: 80+ Healthy Home-Cooked Favorites from Cultures Around the World. Maya, alongside Dr. Kavita Patel, is Co-Host of Well, Now Podcast, Slate’s new wellness podcast.
Alana J. Arnold, MD, MBA, is a board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physician, healthcare executive, and strategic advisor working at the intersection of clinical innovation, health equity, and healthcare communications. She is the founder and CEO of PEMPal, a pediatric clinical decision-support company designed to improve care in community and non-pediatric settings. A former network pediatric emergency medicine director, overseeing 11 hospitals, Dr. Arnold advises healthcare organizations, digital health companies, and industry leaders on clinical strategy, patient engagement, market positioning, and equitable innovation. She is also a nationally recognized speaker and advocate for improving pediatric outcomes in underserved communities.
Porsche M. Holland-Otunba, CLC, C-CBE, PMH-C is a Philadelphia native, wife, and girl mom of two. As a birth trauma survivor she answered the call to engage families as a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Lactation Counselor. Porsche’s continued commitment to black families has led her to pursue the following: CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor), C-CBE (Certified Childbirth Educator), Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, Certified ACTT Facilitator, and holds the world’s first Certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C). Porsche is the CEO and Lead Consultant of Reclaim Black Motherhood LLC (RBM), a firm dedicated to the growth and development of birth workers and contributing to program development, curriculum building, and research efforts in the birth, postpartum, perinatal mental health, and lactation spaces.
Dr. Joy Cooper is co-founder and chief executive officer of Culture Care, a telemedicine startup for Black women that provides care and second opinions by Black doctors. She is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist. As a medical student, she founded a non-profit that taught reproductive health to Black adolescent girls. Dr. Joy, as she’s known, returned to her native Philadelphia for residency. During her time there, she learned the power of culturally-concordant care while working at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and serving the large Black female population in West Philadelphia. Dr. Joy has worked clinically in the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Ghana. She leverages that exposure to find creative solutions to fix healthcare for her community. She has been featured on Good Morning America, Essence, and USA Today to discuss the health disparities that plague Black women in the United States.
Lauren Abelin, our Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, has dedicated her life to researching and developing human-centered solutions to problems impacting mental and physical wellbeing. Previously, she worked in the nonprofit sector as an emotional learning specialist, implementing programs in school districts which helped thousands of children develop stress management skills. Her 10+ years of experience in the field, in addition to her own healing journey managing a chronic illness, has inspired her to address the issue of toxicity in our food and the state of children’s health. She is committed to empowering others in their journey to attain mind body wisdom, adopt healthier lifestyles and live the most enriched lives possible.
