As we close out the year we are grounding in the healing power of embracing our traditions. Now is such an important time to lift up our care traditions surrounding the reproductive continuum particularly as we collectively navigate a post-Roe landscape. We will explore how our ancestral pathways including: the midwifery model of care, mindfulness practices, grounding dance and movement, spirituality, healing arts, community support, and personal autonomy shape our birthing and postpartum experiences.

Mama Glow is a global maternal health platform serving birthing people along the childbearing continuum. Through doula training programs Mama Glow is cultivating the next generation of birth workers.
Dr. Harris serves as the Director of Maternal and Child Health for the Black Women’s Health Imperative. She is a behavioral health scientist with a special focus on health equity, maternal health, and women’s health. She is a mother of three, a near-miss survivor, a doula, and a birth justice advocate. She also serves as the maternal health equity advisor for the state of Maryland and the public health expert for the District of Columbia Mayor’s Commission on Lactation. She received her master’s degree in public health and international development from Morehouse School of Medicine and her doctorate in health behavior and health education from the University of Michigan.
Ebony Marcelle is the Director of Midwifery at Community of Hope that includes Family Health and Birth Center. Formerly the Administrative Chief of Midwifery Service at Medstar Washington Hospital Center she completed her nursing education at Georgetown University and Midwifery at Jefferson University. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate at Frontier University. In 2019 she was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Nurse Midwives. In 2018, she completed Duke University and Johnson & Johnson Nursing Leadership Fellowship. She is adjunct faculty at Georgetown University and currently guest faculty at IHI (Institute of Health Improvement) focused on rebuilding systems to address racism and health equity. Her advocacy work has included multiple congressional briefings creating awareness around the need for policy changes to reduce maternity care disparities. Mrs Marcelle is known for her passion in midwifery and midwifery’s role in reproductive justice.
Maya Louisa is the creator of Sensual Stretch and founder and designer of Kolé Jewel® waist beads. Maya is an initiated priestess of Òsun for 16 years, and keeper of the divine feminine flame. As an artist Maya incorporates ancient healing technique to both her jewelry and dance. She is a certified yoga instructor and has a degree in Dance from Howard University. She has also studied with the legendary Katherine Dunham who inspired her to travel the world performing as a soloist with various Afro-Cuban dance companies. She studies and teaches North African Belly Dance and is an EmbodyBirthTM educator, teaching the ancient movements of Bellydance as pathway to awaken and unlock ancestral womb wisdom.
