Material ConneXion invites you to their event

Material-Minded Design: The Mash-up Culture Forecast

About this event

Our next-gen consumers are fatigued by overconsumption, economic recession and the barrage of “next big things”.  They are rethinking their wasteful habits - looking toward recycling, reinterpreting and revisiting vintage for inspiration and answers; they’re idolizing the nostalgia of the 80s, 90s and Y2K where they can enjoy the respite of a simpler world but deploy the learnings of decades of technological and social progress.

Join Material ConneXion's EVP of research, Dr. Andrew Dent and VP of Business Operations Jennifer Gumpert, PMP as they explore how “Mash-up Culture” is influencing design and experience… and the materials that will support aggressive sustainability pledges.

One lucky attendee will win a complementary 3-month subscription to Material Insights!

What is Mash-up culture?

From 80s to Y2K revival, a strong appetite for nostalgia arose in 2022 that will continue to grow into 2023, thanks predominantly to its popularity among younger generations. From Memphis design inspirations, to old-school emojis, primitive internet aesthetics, bright color blocks and 90s inspired fashion, this is driving the emergence of creative mash ups across all industries and markets. From TVs series, music to catwalk shows, from products, interiors to graphic design, both online and offline, all signal that retro futurism is taking over today’s cultural landscape.
