He started his career during the mid-nineties at IT publishing house IDG, working on titles including ARN, CIO Australia, and Computerworld Australia. He moved to The Australian in 1997 where he worked on the IT section for two years, then moved on to BRW as IT Editor, and then Marketing editor.
