CTP SA Medicolegal Education Forum - Session 1 - What to expect from a GEPIC Assessment & Report

In this lunchtime forum, Psychiatrist Assc. Prof. Abdul Khalid will discuss:

  • What occurs during an ISV Medical Assessment (GEPIC) with an injured person
  • How the GEPIC tool is used to provide an opinion regarding Whole Person Impairment (WPI) and an Injury Scale Value (ISV)
  • How apportionment of any pre-existing and/or subsequent conditions is addressed
  • What is helpful for referring parties to include in and with GEPIC referral letters

Time will also be allocated for questions from participants.

About the Facilitator

Assc. Prof. Abdul Khalid is a highly regarded Psychiatrist experienced in all aspects of general and acute adult psychiatry, and provision of community mental health services. He provides assessment and treatment for mental health problems that include anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, substance abuse, dementia and personality disorders.

He is accredited as a Permanent Impairment Assessor with MAIAS and RTWSA, and is a Medical Advisor to the Government of South Australia. He is also an accredited Medical Practitioner with TAC and WorkSafe Vic

Currently, Assc. Prof. Khalid serves as Consultant Psychiatrist at Ballarat Mental Health Services, a multidisciplinary community mental health team providing specialist mental health services to clients and their families in collaboration with other agencies such as general practitioners. Assc. Prof. Khalid is a Member of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and also a Member of AMC Specialist Education Accreditation Committee. 

Assc. Prof. Khalid worked as Clinical Director- Mental Health at Ballarat health Services from Feb. 2004 to April 2018. He served as Board Member, Victorian Board of the Medical Board of Australia from Oct. 2011 to Nov. 2017 and also Chair of the Registration Committee, Victorian Board of the Medical Board of Australia from Oct. 2014 to Nov. 2017.

Notably, under Assc. Prof. Khalid’s leadership the Child and Youth Mental Health Service Redesign Demonstration Project (Ballarat) won the Minister's Award for outstanding achievement by an individual or team in mental healthcare at the 2013 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in medical and psychiatric journals across a range of subjects relating to mental illness and disorders. Assc. Prof. Khalid also attends and presents extensively at psychiatric conferences and meetings in Australia and overseas.
