About this event

Over the last decades, there have been serious fire events which have gained wide media coverage. Various factors have contributed both to the magnitude and spreading rate of flames, heat and smoke during these fire events resulting in unfortunate loss of lives and assets. These fire events have, in part, triggered changes and updates in codes, regulations and guidelines at an international and local levels to uplift fire safety of buildings.

This conference brings together a range of experts from authorities, standardization bodies, engineers, architects, testing & certification bodies from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, USA and Germany to speak and discuss on the topic of ‘Applying Learnings into Practice for Passive Fire Protection’, with active audience participation encouraged during the panel discussions.

About the Speakers


Er. Ariel Miranda | Chief, Fire Safety Enforcement Division | Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippines

Engr. Ariel Miranda is a member of the Technical Working Group on Preparation of RIRR - RA 9514 (Fire Code of the Philippines). He is also the team Leader on the Task Force for Validation and Verification of the Fire Code, and Philippine Integrated FIre Protection of the Philippines (PIFPO) Technical Consultant on High Rise Buidlings. Engr. Ariel has been awarded with ten medals of Medalya ng Kasanayan (Practice) and a medal for Loyalty in the service.


Ar. Chong Lee Siong | Managing Director | LSA Architects Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia

Ar Chong Lee Siong was Council Member of the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) and has served in the Practice Projects Committee, the Disciplinary Committee, the Building Standards and Legislation Committee and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Committee. He also served as Honorary Secretary in 2006-2007 and as Vice President in 2007-2008. He is member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (UK) and has contributed to the drafting of the Malaysian Uniform Building By Laws (2012) and publication of ‘The Guide to Fire Protection in Malaysia’.


Mr. Edward Goldhammer, P.E. | Director, Codes and Approvals | Hilti North America

Edward Goldhammer has over 30 years of experience in the field of fire protection engineering. He is a duel registered professional engineer in both Fire Protection engineering and Mechanical engineering. Edward is currently the standards chair for ASTM E814 Penetrations, E2750 Extension of Data, E3037 Movement in Penetrations, E1966 Fire-Resistive Joint Systems, UL STP Membrane Penetrations, and Convenor for ISO 10295 Penetration and Joint Seals. He is also Code Committee Technical Chair for the International Firestop Council (IFC) and Fire Safe North America (FSNA).


Mr. Hendi Kurniawan, S.T., MM | Head of Prevention | Bandung Region Fire and Rescue Services, Indonesia

Mr. Hendi Kurniawan, ST, MM has long standing service as Indonesian government official from 2005, apart from duties as fire and rescue official, Mr. Kurniawan promotes and advances Indonesian fire safety as part of the Indonesian Fire Standard Technical Committee 13-04 and as the Head of Regulation and Standards of the Fire Department Association (APKARI) West Java Province.


Mr. Kevin R. Hyland | Principal Engineer, Fire Resistance & Containment | Underwriters Laboratories (USA)

Kevin Hyland has 25 years of experience and is UL’s Principal Engineer responsible for test and assessments of fire rated floor-ceiling and fire rated walls (UL263 / ASTM E119 / ISO 834), through penetration firestops (UL1479), joint systems (UL 2079) and fire resistive materials (SFRM / IFRM). Kevin represents UL Solutions on many standards committees, including UL/ULC, ASTM and ISO along with key memberships within industry associations.


Mr. Kecha Thirakomen | Chairman, EEC GROUP | President, Thai Mechanical and Electrical Consulting Engineer Association, Thailand

Mr. Kecha specializes in design innovation, counseling and personnel development under EEC Academy in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) System. He participates in formation and management of professional associations and organizations such as Air Conditioning Engineering Association of Thailand, Thai Mechanical and Electrical Design and Consulting Engineer Association, Thai Green Building Institute, Council of Engineers, and Engineering Institute of Thailand under H.M. The King’s Patronage, Mr. Kecha is a member of Nominating Committee and Distinguished Lecturer of ASHRAE, USA and a recipient of Excellent Engineer in Energy Conservation, Ministry of Ministry of Science in 1998, Quality Persons of the Year 2010 by Foundation of Science and Technology Council of Thailand and ASHRAE USA Fellow Award in 2009.


Mr. Markus Schneider | Global Head, Codes/Regulations & Standards Devt. | Hilti Aktiengesellschaft, Germany

Mr. Markus Schneider has more than 20 years of experience in passive fire protection. He is a Member of the CEN Technical Committee, Fire Safety in Buildings (CEN TC 127) and currently serves as Chair of the CEN TC127/WG2/TG1 - European Test Standards for Firestop Penetration Seals and Linear Joint Seals.


Mr. Mathieu Meur | Director | DP Facades, Singapore

Mathieu Meur provides strategic and technical leadership as the director of DP Façade He has extensive knowledge of all types of building envelope systems, their design, engineering, and related codes of practice. Mathieu has worked on numerous major construction projects on five continents, including Changi Airport in Singapore, The Dubai Mall, New Lima Airport and 145 City Road in London. He is an active member of several Singapore Standards working groups, working on multiple guidelines related to building envelopes.


Prof. Ir. Yulianto S. Nugroho, MSc., PhD | Department of Mechanical Engineering Fire Safety Engineering Research Group | Universitas Indonesia

Prof. Yulianto S Nugroho is actively involved educating society from fire safety perspective via research, lectures, conferences, seminars, and standards development especially in Indonesia. He is active researcher with research aimed towards the development of innovative fire safety technologies enabling the implementation of next generation performance-based standards in cost-effective manner.
