Transforming the Value of Offshore Wind Assets through Intelligent Health Monitoring

Over 3.5GW of global offshore wind is due to reach the end of its operational life by 2035. Rather than decommissioning, life extension enables farms to generate more renewable energy and offset more of their embodied carbon. This session will explore an intelligent remote health monitoring solution that continuously measures in-service loads and enables life extension of 10+ years to be justified relative to conservative predictions at design stage. It is currently being used on the London Array wind farm in the UK – both to justify life extension and move to risk-based operations and maintenance through scenario modelling. These activities are estimated to add $25m/year of extension in value, and reduce through life carbon emissions by 15% for a wind farm of this size – an essential part of achieving net-zero targets.
