Anand Pillai is a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon at Manchester University Hospital, Wythenshawe with a specialist interest in Foot & Ankle Surgery.




Will Eardley is a complex trauma and limb reconstruction surgeon at South Tees Hospital in Middlesbrough, UK.





Jayne Ward, Orthopaedic trauma consultant at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Her main interest is open fractures.




Information about the presenting surgeons

Prof. Anand Pillai is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Manchester University Hospital, Wythenshawe with a specialist interest in Foot & Ankle Surgery. He trained in Orthopaedic and Foot surgery in the West of Scotland and has undertaken further sub-specialist fellowships in Adelaide, South Australia and Oxford. Prof. Pillai has also visited and worked with surgeons from SportsMed SA, Mater Hospital Sydney and Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital in Perth. Furthermore, Prof. Pillai has completed a fellowship in Ilizarov techniques and limb deformity correction at the world-renowned Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre in Kurgan, Siberia. He was initially appointed as Consultant to Nine wells University Hospital and Dundee Medical School in Scotland, before moving to the North West. Prof. Pillai is a member of the EFAS research council and a committee member of AOFAS.

Wythenshawe hospital, located in South Manchester, is renowned for accepting patient referrals from surrounding hospitals for the treatment of complex trauma, bone infection, revision cases, difficult foot and ankle problems, diabetic feet and blast injuries. The orthoplastics service has an excellent system and treatment algorithm for the management of complex lower limb reconstruction.

Mr Will Eardley, MBChB MSc PgCertMedEd DipSEM(UK&I) MFSTEd MD FRCSEd(Tr&Orth) is a complex trauma and limb reconstruction surgeon in Middlesbrough, UK. He sits on several national bodies including the Trauma Audit Research Network, the British Orthopaedic Association Trauma Committee and is the research chairman of AOUK&I and the Orthopaedic Trauma Society. His research interests include trauma and infection management and pathways of care including open fracture and frailty management.

Author of over fifty peer-reviewed scientific papers, Mr Eardley holds academic positions at the Department of Health Sciences, University of York and Teesside University.

Ms Jayne Ward qualified from St Barts and the Royal London in 2002. She undertook her surgical and orthopaedic training in the Severn Deanery.

Ms Ward attended a trauma fellowship at the hospital for special surgery in New York, an AO fellowship at Groote Schuur in Cape Town and a reconstructive trauma fellowship at Queen Elizabeth, Birmingham.

Since 2014 she has been an orthopaedic trauma consultant at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Her main interest is open fractures.

The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery is a thriving and expanding service providing specialist musculoskeletal care in conjunction with the departments of Rheumatology, Physiotherapy, Radiology and Paediatrics. The department consists of 30 Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultants who work across both sites of the hospital Trust.

She is current education chair of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society and chair of AO Current Concepts.
