About this event
In February TaxCalc published the results of the 'Accountant's Voice' survey which revealed that 86% of accountants reported at least some feelings of stress or burnout, 30% expressing this as severe.
Issues of increasingly complex technology, internal staffing issues, dealing with difficult clients and sheer workload being most commonly sited causes of that burnout.
Our findings obviously resonated with the profession and a number of accountants contacted us directly wanting to share their personal stories.
This webinar is a response to those messages.
We know that talking about these issues is not easy, but it is the first step in finding a way through a difficult time.
We will hear from two accountants who have agreed to share how stress has affected them, their businesses and their wider lives and how they have managed to cope.
And we'll also be joined by Dr Ffion Hargood and Dr Shamaas Mohamed who have left their careers in general medicine to focus on issues of stress specifically in the accountancy sector.
We will explore:
This is NOT going to be a source of quick fixes and easy solutions. It is a space where people can be heard and hopefully make connections for the better.
Join us on Friday 1st May for the first of what may become an ongoing series.

Rob Newman is the Managing Partner of Carter Collins & Myer, a long-established firm of accountants and tax advisors based in Rochdale. With nearly three decades of experience, he works closely with business owners on the practical realities of running and sustaining a company. In 2008, Rob experienced a complete mental health breakdown. It took him around two years to recover and rebuild both his personal and professional life. That period shaped how he now views work, pressure, and responsibility. It gave him a clear understanding of how quickly things can become overwhelming, even for capable and experienced people, and how important it is to recognise the signs early. Today, Rob brings that perspective into his work with clients and his wider professional life.
