Part 1: State Policy and Procurement Commitments
In part one of this two-part series, attendees will learn about the energy storage landscape in New York and the integral role energy storage plays in advancing New York’s clean energy transition.
Attendees will hear about the state’s investments, institutions, resources, and programs that comprise its energy storage ecosystem, making New York a hub for energy storage deployment and supply chain manufacturing.
During this webinar, attendees will learn about:
- New York’s energy storage target and how it relates to the state’s broader energy goals
- The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) programs (retail, residential, bulk) that have been recently approved by the Public Service Commission
- NYSERDA’s nation-leading effort to promote fire safety and responsible siting of energy storage
- NYSERDA’s Innovation programs funding R&D into novel energy storage technologies including for long duration
- Specifics about NYSERDA’s new bulk energy storage program, including its upcoming June RFP

Georges Sassine is the Vice President for Large-Scale Renewables at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). He leads NYSERDA’s work in advancing both land-based renewable energy and offshore wind resources. Prior to joining NYSERDA in September 2021, he spent nearly ten years at General Electric (GE) where he took on a wide scope of responsibilities including strategy, scenario planning, product management, innovation, marketing and business development. Georges sits on the board of the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA), a non-profit platform for states and public agencies to collaborate to advance clean energy in the United States.

Doreen M. Harris was appointed President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on April 7, 2021, after serving as Acting President and CEO since June 2020. President Harris is leading NYSERDA’s role to advance the policy frameworks, clean energy technologies, and solutions to help further New York’s clean energy transition while creating hundreds of thousands of good-paying clean-energy jobs and building an equitable economy. Under President Harris’s direction, NYSERDA is supporting New York’s nation-leading clean energy initiatives through advancing infrastructure and innovation, large-scale and distributed renewables, building decarbonisation, energy storage, transportation electrification, clean fuels, transmission and resiliency.
