OUR EXPERTS

Luc Puis, ECCP, trained in perfusion at the Universitaire Ziekenhuizen Leuven and gained further experience working at the University Hospitals Brussels and the ASZ Aalst campuses, covering the full gambit of adult cardiac surgery. Luc has been involved in student education and mentoring at Perfusion School - UZLeuven and at UZ Jette and ASZ Aalst. Luc’s interest in perfusion education lead him into active roles in the Belgian Society for Extracorporeal Technology – BelSECT where he different roles throughout his career. Luc is a member of the European Board for Cardiovascular Perfusion, was the Quality and Outcomes Subcommittee Chair from 2017 to 2019 and was involved in the writing of the European Guidelines for Perfusion, as Chair of the EBCP Perfusion Task Force, together with EACTS and EACTA. Luc is also a member of the International Consortium for Evidence-Based Perfusion.

Theron Paugh, CCP, BS, MHI received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and his Masters of Health Informatics from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He currently holds clinical privileges and practices at Jackson Memorial Hospital (Miami, Florida), Camden Clark Medical Center (Parkersburg, WV) and Sparrow Hospital (Lansing, Michigan). He co-developed the PERForm registry for the International Consortium for Evidence-Based Perfusion (ICEBP) and serving as the perfusion lead for the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Quality Initiative. He is currently employed by Comprehensive Care Services (CCS) as the Corporate Director of Quality and Analytics. Mr. Paugh serves as Secretary for the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology (AmSECT).


Verna Nelson, Principal Clinical Specialist, practiced respiratory therapy from 1979 until she started in perfusion in 1993. In 2014 she joined Terumo as a Clinical Specialist. In 2016 she became a CCP Emeritus and stills enjoy being in the OR with clinicians. She has a bachelor's degrees in Health Services Management from the University of Missouri-Columbia and Perfusion Technology from St. Louis University.
