In this FREE 60-minute Panel Discussion, Derek Brown, Leslie Galloway, Robert Russell-Pavier, David Watson and Phillip Lewis Williams will provide comments and guidance on the latest VPAS news to an industry desperate for clarity.

The Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing and Access (VPAS) applies to branded medicines including branded generics, in vivo diagnostics, blood products, dialysis fluids, branded products supplied through tenders or central contracts and biological medicinal products.

It aims to promote the uptake and use of the most cost-effective medicines in the NHS whilst striking a balance between promoting innovation and ensuring patients have access to cutting-edge therapies at an agreed price. However, the scheme is not without controversy or criticism.

    David Watson Executive Director, Market Access @ ABPI

    David Watson is Executive Director for Patient Access at the ABPI. He is responsible for ABPI activity on the 2019 Voluntary Scheme (VPAS) and recently secured a reduction in the planned payment for 2022. The ABPI are heavily focused on the replacement for the current VPAS and will enter discussions across industry on this topic, as well as through its engagement with Government and NHS.

Derek joined the pharmaceutical Industry in 1988 and has worked for some of the largest companies in the proprietary and generic sectors. He set up his own consultancy practice in 2019 which has now expanded to have high level engagement with companies operating in early-stage Phase 1 clinical trials through to helping pharma companies including Top 3 firms amplify their commercial portfolio strategies. Derek is committed to proactivily working with his affiliates and in addition supporting the NHS to develop the best partnership solutions across several key areas.
