    Karl Mandel University of Erlangen-Nuremberg

    Prof. Dr. Karl Mandel studied Earth Sciences and Materials Science in Munich and Ulm in Germany and Oxford in the UK and holds a PhD in Chemistry (Würzburg, Germany). Since 2014, he heads the Particle Technology Group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research (ISC) in Würzburg. In 2020 he was appointed as Professor for Inorganic Chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany after having finished his Habilitation in Würzburg in 2020. The research and development focus of the Mandel Group is on assembling nanoparticles to functional entities called supraparticles, mainly by means of spray-drying to create smart systems that can contribute to sustainability.

    Philipp Groppe PhD Candidate @ FAU

    Philipp Groppe studied Functional Materials at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität in Würzburg (Germany) and graduated with a Master of Science degree in 2020. In 2020, he started his PhD in the Supraparticle Group at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) under the supervision of Karl Mandel. His research focuses on the structural control of functional supraparticle systems assembled from nano building blocks utilizing spray-drying and how obtained structural differences influence the functional properties of the created materials.
