Solar PV Design and Installation: A Practical Guide
This session is for architects, designers, specifiers and contractors. It gives a practical introduction to specifying and delivering solar PV on commercial and domestic buildings. It covers how PV works and how annual output is estimated, and it looks at the main equipment choices: panels, inverters, optimisers, mounting systems for flat and pitched roofs, and building-integrated PV. It then walks through the approvals needed before installation, including DNO applications, export limitation and planning, followed by installation timelines, maintenance and recent market changes. The aim is to help attendees get the design decisions right early, avoid costly problems later and make sure PV fits in smoothly with the rest of the building works.

Presented By: Mark Golding
Mark Golding is Head of Sales at Spirit Energy, a commercial solar PV, battery storage and EV charging installer based in Berkshire. He joined Spirit Energy in 2016 and spent his first years preparing quotes and technical proposals, then moved into sales management in 2021. He now leads the sales and estimating team, which matches clients with systems designed to suit their site and energy use. Mark also knows the technology as a user. He has installed an in-roof PV system at his own home, with a battery and an EV charger that charges both an electric and a plug-in hybrid car.
