About this event

IIE Digital Roundtable

Bill and Ted’s Incredible Insurance Adventure: Where do you go to get your fix(ed income) in today’s binary world?

10-11.15am, 9th September 2020

Welcome to our our latest digital roundtable, examining the continued uncertainly caused by Covid-19 for fixed income investors, the critical questions for this current binary world, and how to build a resilient fixed income portfolio.

As summer comes to an end and the economy slowly stutters back into life, albeit with the spectre of a second wave hanging over it, corporate earnings and cash flows remain under strain. Defaults look to inevitably increase but at the same time, massive and proactive central bank support measures have injected confidence and dampened these for now.

For insurers, there is unlikely to be a return to the paradigm of old, particularly given the aftershocks of staggering debt issuance and likelihood of sporadic bouts of future volatility. In today’s period of genuine uncertainty, the answer to many critical investment-related questions is inevitably binary as tail risks dominate.

Asking the right questions and focusing on both risks and opportunities will be essential to navigating the investment landscape and creating a resilient portfolio.

Key topics for discussion

  • What is currently driving credit markets?The evolution of central bank intervention
  • The current default and downgrade environment
  • Market liquidity
  • The key binary questions today:
  • Will we work differently;
  • The direction of wealth inequality;
  • Inflation or deflation;
  • Are we heading for bigger companies than ever;
  • Can we pay the deficits;
  • Will there be business failures down the road;
  • and more.
  • How best to construct a resilient fixed income portfolio for today’s environment.
