In his recent Conservative Party Conference speech, Boris Johnson announced that he wants all homes in the UK to be powered by offshore wind by 2030. To back it up, the government has pledged £160m investment in infrastructure to boost the sector, including funding to upgrade ports and infrastructure across communities such as in Teesside and Humber in Northern England, Scotland and Wales.
It is claimed the investment will result in the creation of approximately 2,000 construction jobs and will enable the sector to support up to 60,000 jobs directly and indirectly by 2030 in ports, factories and the supply chains through the manufacture of offshore wind turbines.
It is an ambitious target from the prime minister, but one that was welcomed by the industry. In practice, will this ensure that the UK can meet this ambition in just over nine years? What are the challenges that need to be overcome with regards to policy, planning and construction? And what does this announcement mean for the rest of the renewables sector, including those developing new methods and technologies for storing electricity?
This webinar brings together a range of industry experts to discuss these issues and more.
