Belonging by design: Human-centered teaching in uncertain times (EMEA timezone)

About this event

Interactive training session

Higher education is navigating real complexity: enrollment pressure, burnout, AI disruption, and rising student expectations. In that reality, belonging isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s foundational to learning, persistence, and well-being.

In this interactive session, Marlene Montes de Oca will guide you through how intentional, human-centered teaching practices can help students feel seen, safe, and ready to participate, while also supporting faculty in demanding conditions.

We will explore:

  • Why belonging matters now (and how it shapes learning and persistence)
  • From “content delivery” to human-centered teaching (what changes when we teach for relationship and trust)
  • Getting to know your students as people (small moves that lower the cost of participation)
  • Formative assessment as a belonging practice (low-stakes check-ins that surface understanding and strengthen community)
  • Turning insight into action (simple ideas you can use next week)

This will be an insightful training for faculty, instructional designers, teaching and learning teams, academic leaders, and student success professionals.
