Innovation in Sustainable Energy: Food Waste and Fuel Cells

About this event

Food waste is a significant global problem associated with huge economic and environmental burdens. Our research program involves application of waste-to-energy technologies specific to regional food waste management challenges, with a specific focus on anaerobic digestion and thermochemical conversion (gasification/pyrolysis). The greatest potential lies in combining technologies in a “bio refinery” architecture that includes high-efficiency conversion of biofuel into electricity via fuel cells. Our ultimate objective is to develop low-carbon sustainable energy systems utilizing waste feedstocks and high-temperature fuel cells.
