The future of onshore wind: which way will it blow?

About this event

The Chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng MP announced in his 22 September mini-budget that the ban on onshore wind would be lifted, bringing the technology ‘in line with other infrastructure to allow it to be deployed more easily in England’.

The change comes about because of the cost of living crisis, unstable gas supplies from Russia and commitment to net zero targets.

But how does the onshore wind sector avoid the mistakes that led to the 2015 ban, when the then Prime Minister, David Cameron said communities were ‘fed up’ with the source of electricity?

Join us on 27 October from 12.00-13.00 where our expert panel will discuss the implications of this new announcement and what it means for the future of onshore wind in England and potential knock-on effects to the rest of the UK.

We’re delighted to welcome representatives from across the industry to contribute to what should be a fascinating discussion, including:

  • James Robottom - Onshore Wind Advocacy and Policy Manager at RenewableUK
  • Liz Dunn - Partner at Burges Salmon
  • Chaired by Sam Cranston – Director of Energy Infrastructure, Copper Consultancy

More panellists to be added in due course.
