About this event
This session explores the complexities of port operation and looks at the latest cutting edge wireless crane systems for remote control and automation.
Using the example of the Port of Malta, which recently pioneered a connected port design for its yard equipment, movable assets and cranes, you’ll learn about how this complex environment presents examples of automation that other industries can learn from.
For instance, we’ll explore port safety through greater automation. The dangers of this equipment are real – like the ship-to-shore cranes that move up and down the berth to get those containers off the huge cargo ships. Those cranes are 10-15 stories tall. A crane operator must climb stairs to the top of that crane. Adding remote operations to this scenario and putting the operator on the ground changes everything.
